Cop commandeers civilian’s bike, tackles drug dealer in wild street chase: video

Wild footage from the UK shows a police officer patrolling a civilian’s bicycle to track down drug dealers who have stashes of drugs disguised as sweets.

“This incident is an example of good old fashioned policing where our officers and members of the public work together to bring down a man whose actions are bringing the community down,” Inspector Beth Warren, of Northamptonshire Police, said of the dramatic footage, according to SWNS News.

The incident happened on August 23 in Northampton, after police received a call from a member of the public that a man, later identified as Sean Prosser, 28, had been dealing drugs.

Police Constable Lewis Marks responded and chased Prosser from his police vehicle, the video shows.

Prosser was seen riding a bicycle and sneaking into Beckets Park, forcing police to jump out of his car and chase the suspect on foot.

Marks then spots a civilian riding his own mountain bike and asks to control it.

“Can we borrow your bike? Can we borrow your bike? Thank you,” Marks is heard saying in the recording.

The wild video shows the cop speeding on a mountain bike through park and city streets until he catches up to Prosser, and tackles the man.

“Ouch! My head. I didn’t do anything,” Prosser is heard saying in the recording as the two wrestled on the ground.

Marks handcuffed the man and radioed his co-workers that he had “crashed [Prosser] get off his bike.”

“I will return this bike to its owner. I just took it from the public,” he added.

The video shows the officer cycling back to the park, where he meets the bike’s owner and thanks him for lending him the mountain bike.

“My friend caught him, I wouldn’t have caught him without your help,” he told the man as they shook hands.

Prosser was arrested and found to be in possession of a large amount of cash, and a phone containing text messages related to drug deals, according to SWNS.

Police also found Kinder egg candy toys containing heroin and crack cocaine.

He was charged with two counts of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug, escape from lawful custody, obtaining/using/possessing criminal property, being concerned in the supply of cocaine and being concerned in the supply of heroin.

He pleaded guilty earlier this month and was sentenced to more than three years in prison, according to SWNS.

“PC Marks’ quick thinking ensured that Prosser was apprehended quickly and I would also like to take this opportunity to thank members of the public who allowed us to borrow his bike,” Inspector Warren of Northamptonshire Police added of the officer’s actions, according to SWNS.
